I’ve had the honor of attending a Dale Carnegie course called Sales Advantage the past several weeks. It’s an 8 Week course considered to be one of the best of it’s kind and I can tell you it is. I jumped at the chance to participate because I’m launching out on my own as a writer and speaker and that will of course involve sales. Namely, selling me.
I Hate Sales
I am an introvert, private, I-like-to-work-alone person. It’s one of the reasons I failed in the music business. I didn’t like to talk to people, so I didn’t. I didn’t like to call them and ask for work, so I didn’t. I didn’t like tooting my own horn, so I didn’t. It’s a wonder I worked at all.
Arm Twisting
When I entered the world of business though, I began to see sales in a different light. I began to realize I:
- Had thought sales was arm twisting.
- Sales is simple a part of business.
- Sales is also something that happens naturally if marketing is done well.
- Good sales (dare I say proper sales) benefit both the seller AND the buyer.
Sell Yourself
Sales is not arm twisting. It is telling someone who needs what you do why you can help them.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
Why would you NOT do that?
